While Dell has asked for details of the new X50 to be hidden until it's released, the FCC released very primitive information, including a picture, about the X50 late Friday afternoon. Part of the documentation is a request for confidentiality including the external photos, internal photos and user manual until September 24th. In the past the confidentiality request has coincided very closely with the actual release date.

Ok, so it's only a picture of the backside, but this image clearly confirms the presence of both WiFi and Bluetooth in the high end X50 unit. The documentation confirms that a second mid-range X50 will contain Bluetooth only. It stands to reason that a third unit will also be released with no wireless at all. The only other useful piece of information is that two batteries will be available, an 1100 and 2200mAh unit. It's logical to assume the 2200 will be an add-on high capacity unit, but it’s possible that the high end X50 will feature a larger battery as part of its standard configuration.
From our initial report this past weekend:
Here's a rare treat--rare because Dell usually keeps a very tight lid on their upcoming models. A source, who shall remain anonymous on the hope that Dell's black ops team won't find him and terminate him, has revealed information recieved by his company from Dell about the next generation Axim.
According to the report, the Axim X50 will have three different models in its line, with the highest using a 3.7 inch VGA screen. The X50 will have dual expansion slots, CompactFlash and SD, "among other things." The dimensions will be close to those of the X30, but it will not use the form-factor of either the X30 or the X5, opting for a new design that, in the words of the source, "...looks a bit like the rumored iPaq 2000 series..." No word yet on wireless or price point, but we'll keep pumping him. He did add that the documentation lists a release date in October.
