I've had the Treo 650 for a few hours now and so far, I really love it. I have enjoyed the first few hours so much, that I actually contemplated abandoning T-Mobile for Sprint PCS so I don't have to wait until January for the GSM model.

I could ramble on about how it's the same size as the Treo 600 and it's added a better display, Bluetooth, new buttons and a better camera. I could join in the whining about the lack of internal memory. I could even do an about face and rip the 650 in the name of contrarianism. For now I'll shelve all of that.

My best gauge of how good or bad a PDA/Smartphone is, centers on feedback from real world users; not hard core gadget and tech geeks like me. I took the Treo 650 to three people today, all of which are rabid Treo 600 users. The following are their statements, all captured within 60 seconds of toying with the device:

Wow, the display is a night and day difference. I really love the backlight brightness on the keypad. The keys seem larger and easier to use. The camera improvement is amazing.

Nice, it doesn't rattle when I shake it like my 3rd Treo 600. The keys are larger, only a little, but enough to make a difference. The camera is much better, oh, and it can record video out of the box. This is great.

So much more bright and crisp than the 600's display. The mirror on the back is stupid. Where's the reset pin? It feels really sturdy. The new keyboard is a little better, but still not as good as the Treo 300.

As for me, as I said, I'm really enjoying it thus far. I've had some pretty serious Bluetooth issues. I can't get it to pair with my headset to save my life. But overall, this could be the first Smartphone to really make me reconsider my dual device pledge. Likely the deciding factor to push me over the edge is wireless speed. Already I'm loving how fast I get get email, when compared to the T5 and my Sony Ericsson phone.
