update 8/21/02:
Many sources are now stating that the Palm device code named "Oslo" that was rumored for release next month, will if fact not be released at all. It seems that this device is nothing more than a prototype and early on it was determined the product was not suitable for commercial release.
The feature packed device would have finally given Sony a run for its money. Although, it seems that all those features took up too much space, making the device much thicker than users wanted. Hopefully Palm will circle the wagons and quickly get to work on something else.

PocketPCThoughts.com recently posted some intriguing pictures of what looks like a new and futuristic looking Palm device.  Rumor is this device is going to be the first to run the much awaited Palm OS 5.0.

The picture leaked (below) has Oslo labeled on the top, but it's likely that is just a code name for the device while it is being developed.  The most intriguing aspect of this picture is that it looks as if the graffiti area can be hidden by sliding the screen down over it, somewhat like the Sharp Zaurus that hides its keyboard in this manner.  That would make for a really compact carry anywhere design for sure.  The directional controller certainly would be an improvement over the typical up/down scroll buttons that come with a Palm.  And take a look at that prominent speaker on the top, does this mean we'll have the MP3 and recording abilities typical with a Pocket PC device?  That'd be pretty likely given the fact Palm OS 5.0 is being touted as a Multimedia rich OS.

We'll keep you posted on any new rumors, but not much is known right now.
