Apple Working on Two iPhone Updates
by Valerie Sarnataro -  11/17/2011

Despite releasing iOS 5.0.1 a week ago, Apple is already working to release two separate software updates for the iPhone, still looking to fix battery issues, as well as bring longer-term improvements to Siri, according to a new report.

[click to view image]The report claims that iOS 5.0.2 will be coming very soon, pegging it for an arrival by the end of next week. The update should finally completely solve the battery bug that has been plaguing iPhone users, despite the first iOS 5 update being intended to do so. While many iPhone customers saw an increase in battery life, others took to the Internet to complain about the ongoing issue.

A release next week would be a relatively fast turnaround given the lack of developer testing for iOS 5.0.2, then again, developers only spent a week with iOS 5.0.1 before Apple scrambled to make it public.

There is also news that Apple is currently working on the first big iOS 5 update – iOS 5.1 — which is said to bring some serious Siri improvements to the iPhone 4S. With this update apparently set to come early next year, Apple is said to be looking at a significant expansion of Siri’s capabilities for controlling iOS devices and implementing commands for such tasks like taking photos and videos and turning on and off Wi-Fi.

While the iOS 5.0.1 update was also meant to improve the voice-recognition system’s understanding of the Australian accent, Apple promised that more accents will soon be distinguished by Siri. Perhaps this will come with the first big update to Apple’s latest operating system.
