Sierra Wireless has announced that it will release its first smart phone by the middle of next year. This will offer both a phone keypad and unique flip-open QWERTY thumbpad.
So what do you get when you cross a mid-to-high end Palm OS PDA with a Global Positioning System (GPS)? One answer is a surprising new offering from Garmin -- the iQue 3600. While the iQue 3600 does have its flaws, I wouldn't leave home without it -- and neither should you.
There's an unconfirmed report that a 2 GB SD card will be announced soon; Garmin's iQue 3600 can now HotSync with Mac OS X; and more.
The Garmin has left me with mixed emotions thus far. I'm having a great deal of fun with the GPS, but the lack of wireless options leaves me wanting more. In the end it's a decision based on need and whether or not you can hold out for wireless support, which has been around the corner for almost a year.
On Saturday I excitedly posted about the fact that Buy.com had the new Garmin iQue 3600 in stock and shipping. I went on to say that I had placed my order with overnight shipping and was expecting it, worst-case on Tuesday. It’s now Wednesday and I won’t be getting the iQue 3600 from Buy.com any time soon. Turns out the unit was out of stock and they didn’t think it was appropriate to let me know. Here's the whole story...
I have eagerly been waiting to test out the Garmin iQue 3600, the first PDA with integrated GPS. Production problems have caused multiple delays, but I'm happy to report that I have one on the way. Monday should be quite exciting, as long as I don't crash while driving with the iQue in one hand and the wheel in the other.
The Garmin iQue 3600 brought a lot of hope and excitment to the PDA world last year. Sadly Garmin has been unable to deliver on what used to be a Palm PDA with great specs and integrated GPS.
The release of Garmin's iQue 3600, which combines a GPS receiver and a Palm OS 5 handheld, has been delayed until mid-July.
