Power By Hand, the company that owns PalmGear and Palm Digital Media, has just acquired PocketGear — which sells Pocket PC applications — and Smartphone.net — which sells software for Microsoft smart phones.

“Responding to customer demands for mobile solutions, Power By Hand has been dedicated to a cross-platform vision for many years that will enable customers and partners to remain focused on the handheld OS of their choice, and these acquisitions are an important part of that strategy,” explained Ryan Wuerch, chairman and chief executive officer of Power By Hand. “This will enhance Power By Hand’s ability to offer a cross-platform, enterprise-class customer experience and quality content for our customers and partners. No other mobile content company has the experience and worldwide support capabilities that Power By Hand can now deliver.”

With these acquisitions, Power By Hand is setting itself up to compete toe-to-toe with Handango, an online retailer that sells software for Palm OS, both versions of Windows Mobile, and Symbian OS.

This announcement was made at CTIA Wireless 2004, which is going on now in Atlanta.
