RATOC Systems has been perfecting the first ever compact flash USB host card over the past few months. This means you’ll be able to use any USB device with Pocket PC drivers.
RATOC sent word that the product is coming along nicely and will be made available next month, although they did not disclose the price.
Adding USB Host ability to PDAs has a number of very serious and positive implications. As the expansion options continue to climb, the need for other mobile computing devices, like laptops, may decline. This is also a major boon for the PPC platform as a whole. While Sony has incorporated a USB port in the cradle of the new NZ90, the Palm OS devices don’t have anything like this. Toshiba includes USB connectivity on the 330/335 built-in, but this card now gives the Axim Line and iPAQ’s with sleds the opportunity to catch up.
