After-Christmas Sales Bring Savings on Smartphones

‘Twas the day after Christmas, and all ‘cross the Net, smartphones were selling at great prices, you bet!

Christmas is the time of giving, but the post-holiday sales are about getting — you getting yourself the things you really wanted but didn’t receive as a gift. There are plenty of phones on sale today and in some cases throughout this week.

Motorola Droid BionicVirtually all the models available now with special prices run Google’s Android OS, though there are a scattering of deals on BlackBerry and Windows Phone handsets.

Verizon Wireless
Big Red is offering many of its 4G LTE smartphones at special prices. For example, the Motorola Droid Bionic is $200 with the standard two-year contract, down from the regular $300. The Pantech Breakout, which usually sells for the already bargain price of $100 with contract, is currently at half price.

In addition, Verizon is having a sale on refurbished units. A pre-owned Droid Bionic is $80, a Motorola Droid Pro is free with contract, and there are many other options. These prices are only available online, though.

The other carrier that’s having a big after-Christmas sales is T-Mobile. A variety of smartphones have temporary price cuts, such as the Samsung Galaxy S II in a white casing, which is $100 with contract (down from $230) and the HTC Radar 4G, a Windows Phone that can be had for free through Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Samsung Galaxy S II from T-MobileThe holiday spirit must have run dry at AT&T and Sprint — neither are doing anything special this week. Still, some retailers have bargains on products from these Grinches.

Not to be left out, U.S. Cellular is having a web-only sale this week on many of its smartphones.

Although not all the carriers are having sales, Best Buy has put handsets from all the Big Four on discount for a short time. This includes AT&T’s HTC Inspire 4G, which is free for new subscribers. This carrier’s Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is also free with contract. Devices from the other three biggest carriers are included as well.

Radio Shack is having a sale on models from Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. This includes the HTC Infuse 4G and LG Thrill 4G, which are free with contract, but only in this retailer’s stores.

The web retail giant Amazon isn’t specifically having an after-Christmas sale, but it does have some devices at special prices. The new Motorola Droid RAZR is going for $180 to new Verizon customers, not the usual $300. Current subscribers save $70 if they upgrade to this model. The HTC Rezound, also from this carrier, is half off the usual $300 with contract.

Wirefly, an online store that specializes in phones, currently has the Motorola Droid 3 for free to new Verizon customers, or $20 to those who are renewing their contract. The HTC EVO Design is also free for new Sprint customers. There are other deals as well.

If you know of any other stores having smartphone sales, please share them in the Brighthand Forums.
