Amazon Appstore for Android is celebrating its first birthday with a week of deals on some of its customers’ favorite apps and games, including Fruit Ninja, Tetris, and Monopoly.

Amazon AppstoreThe birthday deal starts today with Plants vs. Zombies receiving a 67% discount. Also starting today, the company will award a Kindle Fire to eight winners who enter the Amazon Appstore for Android Birthday Giveaway sweepstakes. Tomorrow, it will announce two more app deals, and on the third day, the company will reveal three more app deals and so on for the remainder of the week-long celebration.

Since its launch, the Amazon Appstore has seen its app selection grow from 4,000 apps to 31,000. Amazon attributes the store’s success to its Test Drive service that allows customers to test out apps before buying it. Once they download the app, they can use it across multiple devices.

The Amazon Appstore was created last year in order to compete with Google Play (formally the Android Market). Although not well known, the Amazon Appstore includes many features that are not found in Google Play, including Free App of the Day and 1-Click technology. These features have been a fixture of Amazon and its appstore since its creation.

Android users can download a mobile app to access to software store by going to and clicking Amazon Appstore. Then, after adding their mobile number or email address into the Getting Started box, they will receive a text or email from Amazon that has the application attached. More instructions are available on the Getting Started page.
