Motorola has updated its official timetable for when operating system upgrades will be released, and many smartphone owners are getting bad news.
The upgrade for the Cliq and Cliq XT had been scheduled for this quarter, which meant it would be out by the end of September. This is now expected to launch in “late Q3/early Q4”, likely pushing the release into October.
The news is worse for those with a Motorola Devour: this model “will not have a software upgrade to Android 2.1”. The reason for this was not given, but it could be related to this smartphone’s weak sales.
All three of these models run Android OS 1.5, and there have been many complaints from users that their operating systems are out of date.
Droid X Still on Schedule
The Android OS 2.2 upgrade for the Motorola Droid X is still on schedule to be released in late summer.
And the expected timing for the Android OS 2.1 upgrade for AT&T’s Motorola Backflip hasn’t changed: sometime by the end of this quarter.
