Rumors of a few colors for the Nexus 5 bore fruit today as Google released a new version of its flagship Android smartphone. Based off of LG’s high-end G2 platform, the Nexus 5 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, NFC, LTE, and either 16 or 32GB of flash storage.
Originally available only in black, a white version came up for sale a few months ago, followed today by “bright red.”
The new red version of the Nexus 5 is available today in the U.S, and Canada, with devices going up for sale this week in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, and Korea, with greater European availability to hit “by the end of the month.”
LG’s CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park mentioned in a statement that new red Nexus 5 ties into the Nexus line’s way of “doing things differently.”
In the U.S. and Canada, at least, it’s also your best chance if you need a new phone soon – black 16GB Nexus 5 models won’t ship for 2-3 weeks, and white versions won’t leave before Valentine’s Day. The bright red phone, however, will ship within 1-2 business days.
