Apple execs have publicly denied that their company is working on a netbook, but unconfirmed reports say one is in the pipeline. The latest rumor gives some new details on this upcoming model.
According to information coming out of Asia, Apple’s netbook will have a Touchscreen slightly smaller than had been previously rumored: 9.7 inches.
The Touchscreen will allegedly push up the price to around $800, putting into question whether this device will actually deserve the title “netbook”. These devices typically sell for $500 or less, and models that sell for significantly more than that are generally classified simply as notebooks.
And the OS Is…?
Today’s unconfirmed report doesn’t answer one of the burning questions on this computer: what operating system it will run.
Getting Mac OS X to run well on entry-level hardware wouldn’t be an easy task, and there have been rumors that Apple’s netbook will run a version of the iPhone’s OS. This would fit in with the reports that it will have a touchscreen.
The further muddy the water, an earlier report said Apple is developing an operating system especially for this device that will combine features of OS X and the iPhone OS.
According to the latest info, this product is scheduled to be released in October.
