Apple: Two Thirds of iOS Devices Running iOS 7

by Reads (3,367)

At the fall Apple event, Apple CEO Tim Cook just announced a new milestone for iOS installations – we knew that Apple users had installed the iOS upgrade more than 200 million times – claimed by numerous people to be the quickest operating system upgrade in history. But even more incredible is that of the iOS devices still in use, nearly two-thirds of them have been upgraded.

This is in no small part thanks to the software’s backwards compatibility – fairly impressive for a mobile operating system (still nothing compared to Microsoft’s Windows or Apple’s OS X desktop softwares). The iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 can all run the OS, not to mention the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, both of which shipped with it pre-installed. The iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4 can also run it, as well as the iPad Mini.

In addition to the news about iOS 7 installations, Apple announced that more than 60 billion apps have been downloaded in the iOS app store, netting developers over 13 billion dollars in total.
