More than a year after it was introduced for the iPad, Apple’s iWork suite of Office software has been updated to work on the iPhone. This includes three apps: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Many businesspeople on the go frequently find themselves needing to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. Previously, iPhone users in this situation turned to apps created by third-party developers, such as Quickoffice. Now, however, they can use software that has been created by Apple.
Versions of these for the iPad were released last year, but these worked only on Apple’s tablets. These apps have just been upgraded to work on the smaller displays of this company’s smartphones, as well as the iPod touch.
While not a powerful as their desktop equivalents, these are not “bare bones” applications. For example, Pages allows images to be inserted into text, Numbers supports charts, and Keynote offers animations.
Price and Availability
Those who already own the iPad versions of this Office suite can install the newer ones on their smartphone. Those who are new to Pages, Numbers, and Keynote can purchase them in the App Store for $9.99 each.
iWork for iOS works with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, and iPad 2.
