Apple’s Tablet Could Be Larger than Expected

There have been numerous rumors saying that Apple is prepping a tablet with a 10-inch screen, but a new report says this device could be much larger than this.

A source in Asia claims to have see two Apple tablets in a factory, one with 13-inch display, and a second with a 15-inch display.

This comes on the heels of a separate unconfirmed report, saying that this company is also considering a tablet with a screen smaller than 10 inches. This version apparently looks like a super-sized iPod touch.

Mac OS X Inside
The most recent rumor answers a significant question: at least one of the over-sized models was running Mac OS X.

There have been conflicting reports, a few saying Apple’s tablet will run this company’s desktop OS, but others saying it will be based on a version of the iPhone OS. Many of the reports didn’t specify which OS this model will run at all.

Considering the Possibilities?
So far, tablets have been niche products, not appealing to a wide audience. For example, Microsoft’s and Intel’s attempt to launch the Ultra Mobile PC was not particularly successful

It’s possible Apple has created prototype tablets in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, from just a bit bigger than the iPod touch to a 15-inch behemoth.  Apple employees are then using these in the real world, to what works and what doesn’t.

The answer could finally be known as early as an Apple event already scheduled for next month.

What Little We Know
The size of the Apple tablet remains a mystery, but leaks from generally reliable sources have revealed much of the functionality.

In addition to a touchscreen, it will supposedly have wireless access to the Internet, including iTunes. This will allow users to download music and also video to play on the relatively large display. In addition, it’s expected to function as an ebook reader.

All of the features one would expect in a mobile computer will supposedly also be included: web browser, email software, etc.

Apple’s tablet computer will almost certainly have Wi-Fi. but previous reports have said that it may also include wireless data service from Verizon’s mobile broadband network.
