AT&T, Best Buy, Verizon Drop BlackBerry Z10 Price

BlackBerry Z10What spells bad news for BlackBerry could mean good news for potential customers: the BlackBerry Z10 is undergoing a rather significant price drop on account of poor sales.

AT&T and Best Buy will be providing the biggest discount on the Z10, which marked the first device to run the company’s new BlackBerry 10 OS. Both the wireless carrier and nationwide retailer will now be selling the Z10 for $49.99 on contract, down from its original launch price of $199.99. Verizon, meanwhlie, will be discounting the device to $99.99 with a two-year contract.

It’s true that price drops are not unheard of in the mobile industry, but the Z10 has only been on the market for less than four months in the U.S. and hasn’t been selling well. Also problematic is that BlackBerry just finished up a subpar quarter in which it only managed to ship 2.7 million BlackBerry 10 units, well below most analysts’ predictions.
