iPhone users can do a great deal with their smartphone, but one thing they can’t is use it as a modem for their laptop. This may soon change, though.
There are third-party applications that allow this, such as PdaNet from June Fabrics, but Apple blocks these from the iPhone App Store, so to install then users have to jailbreak their device.
However, AT&T Mobility’s CEO said this week that his company is going accede to customer wishes and allow them to use their iPhone as an external modem, a process that’s called tethering.
Ralph De La Vega did not say whether AT&T will require its customers to pay extra for this service, and he did not say when it will be available, other than “soon”.
