It has been clear since this spring that Dell is putting together its first Pocket PC with a VGA screen. Now, a rumor gives some additional details about this model.

When Intel was first demonstrating the 2700G multimedia accelerator for the XScale line, a company spokesperson announced that Dell would be using this graphics co-processor in an Axim model to be released during the second half of this year.

The 2700G was created for 640-by-480-pixel displays and up. If it is going to be in a future Axim model, then that model will have a VGA screen.

More on the Axim X50

Recently, source has given BargainPDA a description of this model. This person claims this information was given to his company by Dell.

Supposedly, Dell is preparing three models to be part of the Axim X50 series. One of these will have a 3.7-inch VGA screen.

All three will reportedly have both CompactFlash and SD slots.

This series of Pocket PCs is expected to be roughly the size of the Axim X30.

Unfortunately, BargainPDA‘s source isn’t clear whether these models will have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth wireless networking. The processor and amount of RAM is also unknown.

Dell is planning to release these models in October.

Plenty of Competition

If this information is correct, the Axim X50 will resemble several other Pocket PCs expected to debut this fall. No less than four companies are going to release models with VGA screens and dual memory card slots.

All of these will also have two kinds of wireless networking, while it remains to be seen if the Axim X50 will have either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
