Barnes & Noble has just released an app that allows iOS-based devices to access ebooks created for the nook eReader. This gives users access to over a million ebooks on their iPhone or iPod touch.
With this app, a personal Barnes & Noble ebook library — purchased on a nook ebook Reader, online at BN.com, or on another BN eReader-enabled device — can be wirelessly synchronized with an iOS device.
This company offers over a million ebooks, including new releases and bestsellers. The vast majority of titles are available for $9.99 or less, there are free samples of all ebooks, and more than a half-million free classics.
Books are formatted in the ePub standard.
The nook app lets users control line spacing, font style and sizes, and justification. They can also choose from among millions of colors for fonts, backgrounds or links, as well as the option to control screen brightness.
Barnes & Noble designed this version of its software to optimize ebook cover art and text on the new iPhone 4’s Retina display, and also work well on earlier iPhone and iPod touch models.
Naturally, it offers portrait or landscape viewing, and it lets users highlight, make notes, or bookmark a page.
nook for iPhone supports digital lending, also a feature of the dedicated nook eReader device. Customers can share eligible ebooks for up to 14 days with friends, who can read them with a compatible app or device.
This app synchronizes the last page read of the last ebook opened across any device running the nook software, including iPad, Android OS smartphone, or PC, so if any of these are opened they will be where the user left off. It also syncs the user’s entire library, current reading position, notes, highlights and bookmarks with other nook software-enabled devices.
