DALLAS — Beiks LLC, the world leader in language and reference solutions for mobile devices, announces a new version of its popular LexSpell spelling checker application for Palm OS powered handhelds.

In the new version, configuration options are enhanced to give much better control over the spell-checking process and the generated suggestions; enhancements include automatic recognition of internet URLs, abbreviations and mixed case words, suggestion of split words and more.

Beiks has also responded to the growing market share of Mac OS owners among Palm users and has added a native Mac OS installation download in addition to the standard Windows executable and cross-platform ZIP formats.

The spelling checker is already well known by a vast majority of Palm OS users due the inclusion of its core spelling service LexLib in the most popular office suite available for the Palm operating system – Documents ToGo by DataViz.

LexSpell is a standalone application based on the same service, which extends the spell-checking abilities beyond DTG to any application which input or output is based on standard operating system text controls.

LexSpell is powered by language lexicons from the vast Beiks lexical database and matched against world language standards like Webster, Oxford and Cambridge. Covering the most popular world languages, including American and British English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, LexSpell is an illustration of the company’s motto for “essential applications for mobile users”.

Based on the Beiks document reference technology used in other language and specialized reference solutions, the spelling checker comes optimized for easy one-hand operation on products like the Treo line by PalmOne, minimal memory requirements and optimal speed.

For individual users, LexSpell licenses are offered at $14.95 per language. Site license discounts of up to 60% are offered to educational, medical, government and larger business organizations. Each language database comes with the free LexSpell spelling checking engine.

Fully functional trials with a limit of 30 spell-checking sessions are available for free download and evaluation at

All Beiks language and reference solutions are designed to work on the newer generation of Palm OS devices running OS 3.5 and higher.

Beiks’ proprietary database format especially developed for Palm OS devices allows all reference data to be highly compressed, resulting in faster searches and lower memory requirements.
