In a move clearly meant to attract holiday shoppers, Best Buy has dropped the price of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S by $50 each, offering Verizon, AT&T and Sprint customers the lowest price available for Apple’s latest flagship handset and its predecessor.

Apple iPhone 5Usually sold for $200 with a two-year contract from one of the nation’s three largest wireless carriers, the 16GB iPhone 5 can now be purchased for $150 from the electronic seller.

The price cut also extends to the 32GB and 64GB models, with the devices retailing for $250 and $350, respectively, compared to their original $300 and $400 price tags.

Of course the discount only applies to phones purchased alongside a two-year contract, with Best Buy limiting customers to a cap of two handsets per person. The retailer has also put restrictions on which devices are available online, with only Verizon and Sprint iterations making the cut. AT&T customers will have to visit their local Best Buy store to pick up a marked down smartphone.

Available only until January, the deal also includes a discounted iPhone 4S, with Best Buy knocking the price of the handset down from $100 to $50. The same limitations apply, so those interested better act fast.

One of the most highly-anticipated smartphones to hit the market this year, the sixth-generation iPhone from Apple is still in high demand, though the handset is more readily available as the usual post-launch delays have calmed. With Amazon becoming a more popular destination for discounted electronics, especially around the holidays, Best Buy’s iPhone 5 mark down could be the catalyst the retailer needs to compete with the Internet giant this shopping season.
