Although it has yet to be formally announced, strong evidence has emerged to show that the first BlackBerry with a sliding keyboard will be released by AT&T in the near future.
A image of a prototype Bold 9800 that has an AT&T splash screen as part of its startup sequence has appeared on the Web. However, the device itself does not include this carrier’s logo.
Preliminary Overview of the Bold 9800
Numerous pictures of this upcoming device have leaked out, showing that in addition to its portrait-oriented keyboard, the Bold 9800 will have a touchscreen and a trackpad. Users will also have the option to enter text with an on-screen keyboard.
This model is expected to debut with BlackBerry OS 6.0, a new version of RIM’s operating system that’s scheduled to debut this summer. It will be noticeably enhanced with a redesigned home screen and a more advanced web browser, among other changes.
Aside from unconfirmed reports of a 5 megapixel camera, most other details of this device remain unknown.
At this point, it is unknown when the Blackberry Bold 9800 will launch, or what it will cost.
Still, RIM has announced that BlackBerry OS 6.0 will be released in the third quarter of the year, so this model won’t be on the market before then.
