CHAPPAQUA, NY, U.S.A. — First Star Software, Inc., the Westchester, New York based developer and publisher of award winning games, today announced the release of Boulder Dash-SmartPhone Extreme, the second installment in their Boulder Dash series of games for PDAs. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the initial release of Boulder Dash, with millions of units of the classic, action-puzzler having been sold for consoles, hand-held videogame platforms and home computers. Four different versions of Boulder Dash have been released into the coin-operated arcades.

Boulder Dash-SmartPhone Extreme, is part of the Boulder Dash-Extreme series jointly developed with Pocketnapalm of Budapest, Hungary who together with First Star last month released Boulder Dash-PocketPC Extreme, the first game in the first official Boulder Dash sequels ever developed for PDAs and SmartPhones. Soon to be followed with the release of Boulder Dash-Palm Extreme, all three titles feature 20 Tutorial levels; 100 Game levels spanning five different graphic worlds; beautiful hand-drawn graphics; intense soundtracks and mind boggling level solutions. Game play elements include: remote controlled gates toggled by switches; 90 degree rotation of the screen; growing amoebas and deadly lava; tricky doors and keys. Tools and inventory are also introduced, providing players with the ability to use detonators and dynamite; timed bombs; kick objects and escape from tight spots with their boulder-smashing hammers.

The PocketPC and Palm versions support portrait or landscape mode, all three versions retail for US$19.95. Boulder Dash-SmartPhone Extreme requires Windows Mobile Smartphone 2002 or 2003 (ARM processor); 3 MB free Storage memory and 8 MB free program memory

First Star’s president, Richard M. Spitalny states: “This is our first SmartPhone title and Pocketnapalm has done an excellent job porting the Pocket PC version over to SmartPhones where their beautiful hand-drawn graphics, great music and SFX can all be enjoyed. In addition to an intuitive interface, players can map commands to the keys they desire; select from different control methods; and, save and load their games utilizing the eight ‘beamable’ slave slots. Gamers can also post high scores to the internet; in fact, high scores and saved games can be beamed, even between different OS platforms, via Irda and Bluetooth!”

Said Zsombor Heffter, C.E.O. of Pocketnapalm: “We are pleased by the PDA community’s response to Boulder Dash-PocketPC Extreme and continue to enjoy working with First Star and value the brand support they provide. Pocketnapalm was formed when various legendary Hungarian game development companies joined forces, combining their valuable experiences and skills acquired over many years in the game business. Boulder Dash?-SmartPhone Extreme™ is the second title from Pocketnapalm and we expect it will help us attain our primary goal of satisfying and entertaining our PDA and mobile customers by providing them with only high quality, innovative products.”
