Elegant Algorithms announces FlyZip XR 2.5
Elegant Algorithms has announced the public beta release of FlyZip XR 2.5, featuring native ARM support. FlyZip XR is a compressing and decompressing utility that works with databases on the handheld itself. Version 2.5 gives the user the choice between modes that optimize for compression speed or compressed size. Using speed mode on a Palm Tungsten T, the compression/decompression speed is close to 1 MB/sec and can be as high as 1.7 MB/sec for selected applications. The compression or decompression of a 100kb file now takes a tenth of a second on a Palm OS 5 device and 2-3 seconds on a Palm OS 4 device. In both modes, the compression speed has been increased over previous versions.
The public beta version of FlyZip XR 2.5 can be downloaded at FlyZip.com and installed on any handheld running Palm OS 3.2 or later. The final version will be released in 2-3 weeks at a price of $19.95. Upgrades will be free for registered users of FlyZip XR.
