Handspring has long offered the VisorPhone free with a service activation. The company is now offering the Sprint PCS Wireless Web Digital Link free of charge and a without requiring a service activation. However, it is not compatible with the new high-speed Sprint PCS Vision plans and must be used with a Free & Clear plan
Handspring today announced the promotion of Ed Colligan to the position of president, effective immediately. A co-founder of the company, Mr. Colligan will also continue to serve in his role as chief operating officer, overseeing the company’s worldwide marketing, sales, operations and engineering.

Palm’s Solutions Group has invested in Mobile Digital Media, Inc., a new company dedicated to publishing software for handhelds and mobile phones on SD and MMC cards. Additional funding is coming from a group of private investors with extensive publishing experience. Barry Cottle, previously Palm’s chief operating officer and head of its Content and Access business unit, is chief executive officer. Former Palm Chief Marketing Officer Satjiv Chahil has been named chairman of the board. Mobile Digital Media plans pre-holiday releases of the arcade-style game Rayman and the PalmPak Travel Card featuring Worldwide Cities, with Lonely Planet’s City Synch.
Mapopolis.Com has released Mapopolis Navigator, which provides turn-by-turn directions on Pocket PCs. It generates a route between selected start and end points or from a GPS-supplied current location to a selected address. Before each turn, Navigator provides audio and visual alerts. Should a turn be missed or a wrong turn be made, the software reroutes the driver. Navigator connects with Mapopolis PlaceGuides which provide business locations that can be used as start or end points. Pocket Outlook contacts can also be used as start or end points. It sells for $90 and requires a NMEA-compatible GPS device.
Textware Solutions has released a beta of FitalyVirtual for the Sony NR series, which puts a Fitaly keyboard in the virtual Graffiti area. It’s free during the beta period. It has also released FitalyLetris for the Pocket PC, a freeware game designed to train people to become proficient with the Fitaly keyboard layout while having fun.
