Handango Champion Award Winners Announced

Handango has announced the winners of its Champion Awards. These were created to recognize outstanding mobile software applications and developers for the Palm OS, Pocket PC, Symbian OS, Java, Windows Powered Smartphone and Linux platforms. Categories include “Best Productivity Application” and “Best Game”. An independent panel of industry experts, including Jen Edwards from the Brighthand staff, selected the winners.

Covertec Releases Cases for SPV, P800, and Danger Smart phones

Covertec has recently launched leather cases for three smart phones, including the Orange SPV, Sony-Ericsson P800, and the Danger Sidekick. The SPV case is also a universal horizontal mobile case which can be used for any phone that measures no more than 4.92 by 1.97 by 0.98 inches. The P800 case also features a removable belt clip.

Prices for two of the cases are to be determined; the P800 case will retail for $39.95. Each case is presented in a gift box, and several color choices are also available, including red, brown, and black. For more information or for online ordering, please visit the Covertec web site.

Wi-Fi Available at McDonald’s in New York

McDonald’s has announced that 75 of its restaurants throughout the New York Tri-State area will provide Wi-Fi wireless Internet access. Of the 75 sites, 60 are live today, with additional sites to come. The service will be free during the month of August and at $2.99 a day thereafter.

The pilot program is the second of three major metropolitan Wi-Fi tests McDonald’s will launch this summer. By the end of this year, several hundred McDonald’s restaurants in the NY Tri-State area, Chicago, and the San Francisco Bay Area will offer wireless service.

Handmark Releases Official Battleship for Palm OS and Pocket PC

Handmark has released Battleship, the classic naval combat game, for Palm OS and Pocket PC handhelds. Players can battle against the computer or with friends, using either one or multiple handheld devices. Features include high resolution graphics, adjustable sound volume, and two gameplay modes. Users can play against the computer or another handheld user via infrared.
