Lightspeed Allows Users to Overclock Palm OS 5 XScale Devices
Lightspeed 1.0 from ClieVideo.com allows owners of certain Palm OS 5 handhelds from Sony to overclock or underclock their devices on an application-by-application basis. It is possible to underclock programs such as ebook readers or PIM applications to enhance battery life, for example, and overclock those applications where speed and performance really matter, such as with games, image viewers, and databases. The CPU and bus clock settings supplied with Lightspeed have been tested for stability by the developer, and the settings for each supported device are slightly different.
Supported devices include the following Sony Clies: NX60, NX70V, NZ90V, and TG50. Support for two additional models, the NX73 and NX80V will be available after final testing is complete. Support for the Palm Tungsten C is being considered for a future release.
Lightspeed 1.0 is available for $14.95 from the ClieVideo web site. This is a special introductory price. On July 31 the price will be $19.95.
