BrightBytes™: PPP for Palm, Axim Case, Off-Road Maps, and More

While Pocket PC users can access the Web from this handhelds while in the cradle, Palm OS handhelds with USB cradles couldn’t do this… until now. Softick PPP is a Microsoft Windows driver that allows users to establish a PPP session between a Palm powered device and a Microsoft Windows desktop computer. It’s currently in public beta.

VajaCases has a new leather flipcase for the Dell Axim X5 series. These start at $55 but custom versions, in a variety of colors and types of leather, run $75.

Maptech Outdoor Navigator is for those who use a GPS off-road and want maps that show the lay of the land or depth of the water in a realistic way. The Maptech solution combines Palm Powered devices with a clip-on GPS to display Maptech USGS topographic maps and NOAA nautical charts. The clip-on GPS is $300 and includes 1-year subscription to Outdoor Navigator. It works with Palm m130, m505, m515, and the Tungsten T. For those who already have a GPS unit that hooks to their handheld, Outdoor Navigator is $100 for the first year subscription.

Developer One has released Agenda Fusion 4.91, the integrated schedule, contact, and task management application for Pocket PC. It includes synchronization of custom task alarm times, easier management of categories and icons, contact dialing to Bluetooth and Infrared phones, and more. It costs $30 or is a free upgrade to current users.

Avion has released a new version of FatFinger that is compatible with Palm OS 5. This app puts a keyboard on the screen that the user can type on with a finger.
