BrightBytes™: Quickoffice, Dell, Master Thief and more

Cutting Edge Software has released Quickoffice for Mac, a version of its office suite for the Palm OS that will HotSync with Mac OS X v10.0 and higher. It includes Quickword, a word processing app, Quicksheet, a spreadsheet app, and Quickchart, a charting app. These synchronize with Microsoft Office.

The Wall Street Journal ran an article (subscription required) earlier this week that said Dell’s New Handhelds won’t be available until next year. Thanks to Pocket PC Thoughts for the tip.

Cascata Games has released Master Thief, a 3D game created for the Palm OS platform that was produced in conjunction with MobileWizardry using a modified version of their advanced 3D Deity Engine. Players will need to use different weapons and outwit a host of opponents to complete a mission. They will also find a series of mini-puzzles they must use to crack the secret codes that open doors and disable traps. Master Thief is free and comes with a single mission. Additional missions will be available for purchase at the beginning of November. The game will run in either greyscale or color on Palm OS 3.3 and higher. A modified version will be released later for Palm OS 5 XScale devices.

Sony has released the financial results for its most recent quarter. It posted a net profit of $355 million or 38 cents a share. Revenues for the quarter were $14 billion, .5% higher than the same quarter last year. The company has raised its forecast for its current fiscal year, when ends in March. Previously it had predicted an annual net profit of $1.2 billion; it has upped that to $1.45 billion.

Aidem Systems had developed more than ten Pocket PC apps in the past year and the company is about to port these to the Microsoft Smartphone 2002 platform. This includes Photo Explorer, Pocket Assistant, Clear Bombs, Reversi, Gobang, Majong Paradise and more.
