A new version of Microsoft’s Theme Generator for the Pocket PC’s Today screen is expected later today. Version 2 will allow users to directly access themes on their desktops and automatically change themes on the handheld after a set amount of time. The new version is now available.

NS Basic/Palm 3.0 is now available. This is a development tool for all Palm OS devices, including those from Palm, Sony, Handera, Kyocera and others. The new version features improved performance, new features and is ready for the Palm OS 5.0 devices about to be shipped by PalmSource’s licensees. It also adds support for removable memory cards. Upgrades are free to people who bought NS Basic/Palm after August 15, 2002, otherwise an upgrade is $100. The full purchase price is $150 for a single user.

Syware, Inc. has released Visual CE 7, the latest version of its database and forms development toolset for building customized databases on Windows CE and Pocket PC handhelds. The new version includes support for GPS devices. It also now supports global variables and an expanded range of numeric, string, and date functions. Prices range between $19 for the Lite Edition to $599 for the Professional Edition.

DataViz, Inc., maker of the Palm OS application suite Documents to Go, announced today it has purchased ThinkDB, a relational database program, as well as other product assets from thinkingBytes Technology. Also, DataViz is releasing ThinkDB under the name SmartList To Go. The financial terms of the agreement are not being disclosed, as both companies are privately held.

Tomorrow, Orange SA will release in Britan the first handset running Microsoft’s Smartphone 2002 operating system, according to Reuters.
