All New Dell AXIM X5 Case (oops!)

Sorry I “accidentally” goofed up the title on the front page, but now that you are here, please read on, as there really is a story here and there really are pictures of the new case shipping with the Dell Axim X5.

It s holiday shopping season, and for the techie on your list (maybe even yourself), there are lot s of great deals out there.  PDA prices are at an all time low, and the selection is more diverse than ever.  Today I want to discuss PDA s that are at the $199 price point.  Obviously this is an expensive gift, but for a PDA with powerful features and a color screen, this was previously unheard of.  So here are three recommendations for the value-minded shopper.

First, I would like to recommend the Dell AXIM X5.

Oh, by the way it really does come with a nice case!  Dell has recently updated the bulkier case that previously shipped with the AXIM X5 Pocket PC with a slightly sleeker, more professional looking one.  After seeing what kind of cheap cases are sometimes included from other manufacturers, it is refreshing to see a company go out on a limb and actually include a keeper case already in the box.

This new case combined with the AXIM X5 is sure to gather compliments!

With all the excitement over the new Dell Axim X3 models, the X5 has somewhat fell to the wayside.  Although the X3 is thinner, lighter and has more options (such as built-in Wi-Fi), it is my opinion that the X5 is physically more roadworthy and has better battery life.  (note: please see Adama s review on the X3 for more info. on that model:  Additionally, the X5 offers further expansion options with its integrated Compact Flash slot that is not included on the X3.  After reading the opinions of others around the web, both the X5 and X3 appeal to different consumers depending on how they use their devices. Currently Dell is offering the value priced X5 powerhouse for $199 (and up, depending on features) and that is certainly a rock bottom price point for such a high-tech gift.  CASE in point though, if you do pick this one up for someone on your list, the addition of a functional and professional looking case makes this a nice overall package for the $.

A detachable belt clip is also integrated into the new case.

Next, (also at the $199 price point) is the HP iPAQ 1935.

This little unit is certainly pocketable and has the legendary bright iPAQ display.  Although it does not include a compact flash slot, a Secure Digital slot is integrated for add on memory and assorted SDIO cards.  (Details on this little gem can be found at:

For those of you who are enticed by this $199 price point, but prefer the Palm OS, check out the new Palm Tungsten E:

This attractive and compact unit features a bright color screen and updated Palm PIM applications.  This model might be the perfect choice for the techie who prefers the straightforward interface of the Palm OS, or its immediate compatibility for the Mac lover in your life.  (See our review here:

In final, I would like to offer our readers one more piece of sound advice.  Avoid the crowds at the mall and do your holiday shopping online!

Here is a scene outside our local Best Buy.  The holiday shoppers are
more determined than ever to get at these $199 PDA’s!

You can check out comprehensive lists of prices on all these PDA’s right here on the site.  Many of these retailers offer super deals on shipping and at most of these, you don’t get stuck with paying sales tax!

Well I know I “twisted the tiltle” to get your attention, but at least you have (hopefully) finished reading with some additional thoughts for your wish list of gifts this year.  A PDA?  What an awesome present!  It is my wish to post more ideas as I come across them.  Until then Happy Shopping!
