The will be similar to a model already offered by this carrier, the 8125. However the upcoming version will add 3G cellular-wireless networking capabilities.
This device will debut nationwide on Thursday, November 16. It will be available through this carrier’s consumer and business channels.
All that Cingular is saying now about price is that this Pocket PC phone will be as low as $399.99. To get that price it’s likely the customer will have to sign up for a two-year contract and an unlimited data plan.
More About the Cingular 8525
The 8525 will be a version of the HTC Hermes, and as such it will have the same general form-factor as the current model, which means it will have a landscape orientation, with a QWERTY keyboard located on a slider so it can be hidden behind the QVGA touchscreen.
The primary difference between this model and the 8125 will be the inclusion of UMTS/HSDPA high-speed wireless networking, giving users download speeds between 400 and 700 kilobits per second and upload speeds up to 384 Kbps.
"Not only is the Cingular 8525 the first UMTS/HSDPA-enabled PDA to launch on the continent, it is the only PDA or Smartphone on the American market today to give users wireless 3G capabilities both in the U.S. and in dozens of countries abroad," said Kent Mathy, president of Cingular Wireless’ B2B organization.
This GSM device will also include EDGE, Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0. It’s predecessor has only Wi-Fi b and Bluetooth 1.2.

It will run Windows Mobile 5.0, and the processor speed in the upcoming model has been doubled to 400 MHz.
Naturally, it will come with mobile versions of many of the familiar Microsoft desktop applications, such Office Mobile, Internet Explorer, Media Player, and Outlook.
It will also have Microsoft’s push email system pre-installed, which offers instantly updated email, calendar, tasks and contacts as well as advanced security features.
A 2.0 megapixel camera and a microSD slot will round out the specifications of the Cingular 8525.
There will also be a version of this Pocket PC without the built-in camera called the 8500.
