Cingular Formally Announces the 8125

Although the Cingular 8125 (8100) had shown up on their business site a few weeks back, Cingular today makes the release of the 8100 series of Smartphones official. The 8125 runs Windows Mobile 5 and features an EDGE modem, WiFi, Bluetooth, slide out QWERTY keyboard, Mini SD and 1.3 megapixel camera. The 8100 model offers the same specs sans camera. The Smartphones start at $299 with plan and are available now through B2B channels, online tomorrow or in stores at the end of the month.

An interesting side note in the press release though highlights the fact that the 8125 and 2125 are just the start of Cingular’s plans for Windows Mobile based Smartphones. “The Cingular 8100 series Pocket PCs along with the newly introduced Cingular 2125 Smartphone are cornerstones in our rapidly growing Windows Mobile 5.0 portfolio,” said Michael Woodward, executive director, mobile professional solutions, for Cingular Wireless. “Cingular now has a Windows Mobile 5.0 device offering that appeals to a broad swath of wireless users ranging from productivity-minded consumers to enterprise employees, regardless of whether their device of choice is a handset or a PDA. These are just the first two of what will be an array of Windows Mobile 5.0-based devices that will be available from Cingular by the end of this year.”
