Comcast has released a new security application for iOS to help Xfinity customers prevent online threats. Dubbed Constant Guard Mobile, the program is intended to protect users from phishing attempts and identity theft, among other dangers.
The application is now available in the Apple App Store and is free for Xfinity customers. With many smartphone and tablet owners using their devices for mobile banking and online financial transactions, the frequency of mobile threats has doubled between 2010 and 2011, according to Symantec. Comcast aims to combat these cyber criminals with the app, which offers users a secure way to login to their banking, shopping, email, and social networking accounts.
The app is locked, with users having to enter a PIN number to access their information. Customers can also store credit card data on Constant Guard, which automatically completes payment authorization forms at online checkouts, so users don’t have to enter their credit card information on shopping sites.
Comcast also offers users a secure Google search window in the app, which scans websites to shy users away from those that may try to plant malware on their device. The app comes preloaded with Xfinity email and can sync with accounts setup in the full Constant Guard program for computers to allow for uncompromised sharing.
Constant Guard Mobile is only available on the iPhone and iPad currently, though the company is working on a version of the app for Android as well.
