Compaq launches GSM sled in Europe, pushes back US launch to June Yesterday Compaq said it has released a kit for its iPAQ Pocket PC handhelds that turn the devices into GSM/GPRS mobile telephones. They also have pushed back the US release to June. Initially the add-on sled was due out at the end of March. In addition to voice support, the sled will also add internet access, integrated telephony, Short Message Service (SMS), wireless application protocol (WAP) and email. This is the first effort, in the Pocket PC realm, to compete with the integrated devices on the Palm side, like the Handspring Treo. The sled will bridge the gap for iPAQ owners in the short-term, as integrated devices are due out from HP, Compaq, Toshiba and Audiovox sometime 3rd or 4th quarter. Brian
