Compaq Releases Advisory for iPaq 3800 Backlight

HP/Compaq has issued a replacement program to address a problem with the iPaq H3800 series. It seems that when left on for an extended period of time, the backlight may fail to illuminate when the device is turned on. HP/Compaq is doing the right thing by addressing this issue and offering those affected the opportunity to mail their devices in for repair. Upon powering the iPAQ Pocket PC, the backlight may fail to illuminate

DESCRIPTION
When applying power to the iPAQ H3800 Series Pocket PC, the backlight may fail to illuminate. Holding down the power button to engage the backlight may not provide resolution.

This issue is typically experienced after the unit has been off for several hours. The backlight may function correctly after a normal reset or an adjustment to the backlight settings, but may fail again if the unit is powered off for some time.


SCOPE
iPAQ H3800 Series Pocket PC, models: H3835, H3850, H3870 & H3875 with Serial Number 4G25DW33Axxx and earlier.

NOTE

RESOLUTION


Customers should take appropriate troubleshooting steps to ensure this is a hardware failure and not the result of incorrect settings.


Verify the backlight has not been inadvertently turned off. When the power button is depressed for more than 3 seconds the backlight will cycle on or off.
Verify the backlight settings are not set to ‘Automatic’ and the iPAQ is not under bright lighting conditions that will cause the backlight not to illuminate.
Customers that experience a hardware issue should have their unit submitted for warranty service.
