CyanogenMod Google Play installerWhile the barrier to entry for installing a third party ROM on your Android device has come down substantially in recent years, it’s still not for the faint of heart. It often requires arcane command line functions typed into some terminal or another, downloading various SDKs or phone drivers – in short, it gets rid of everything that makes your smartphone easy to use.

Still, many people put forth the effort. Some wish to cleanse their Android phone of various manufacturer skins, such as Samsung’s TouchWiz or HTC’s Sense. Others prefer the control that a third party like Cyanogen brings to the table. Often, it’s simply because this is the only way to run the latest Android software on their outdated phone (even the Galaxy Nexus no longer gets Android updates).

Now, CyanogenMod will be easier for everyone – even your parents – to install.

You’ll install the new application straight from Google Play onto your device. You’ll then have to install a partner app on your computer, which communicates with the Android app to, in the words of the company, make “replacing and upgrading your current Android installation as simple as a few clicks.”

Like the rest of Cyanogen’s releases, this new Play method of installtion is free. The latest versions of CyanogenMod ship with new security protocols, and even an up and coming app store.

You can snag the new program straight from Google Play.
