David Nagel, PalmSource CEO, Resigns

With the PalmSource developer’s conference about to kick off in San Jose, David Nagel has called it quits at PalmSource. The timing couldn’t be much worse and no reason was given for the saperation. Nagel will stay on as an advisor to help the transition go smoothly and Patrick McVeigh will take over as interim CEO.

PalmSource is the company behind the Palm operating system and several applications for the Palm OS. They’ve suffered through endless delays in getting their latest operating system to market, seemingly warring with their primary licensee, palmOne, the entire time. Other companies that work with PalmSource are having problems too, GSPDA announced three new Smartphones in March, all two of the three have missed release targets and the third will surely follow suit.

Hopefully a shakeup at PalmSource will get them back on target. While they may still have more market share than anyone else, they haven’t exactly been burning up the streets of innovation the past few years.
