Dell Phases Out Axim X50 and X30 Series

Dell introduced a new series of handhelds today which has completely replaced two previous series.

The last Axim X30 model has been discontinued. This group debuted in the spring of last year, and two of the three members were phased out last month.

The entire Axim X50 series has been removed from Dell’s web site as well. These handhelds, which debuted last fall, have been replaced by the new Axim X51 series.

The new devices, though, are essentially the Axim X50 series with an upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0. And current X50 owners will have the option of buying an operating system upgrade if they choose.

This move means that Dell no longer has an entry-level model. Its least expensive device — part of the X51 series — has a base price of $300, although this company frequently offers its handhelds for less.
