Dell to have triplets? A third PDA could be released this year!

by Reads (5,662)

Dell has confirmed the release of two new PDA’s that should come out in the next few weeks. Now I’m hearing that Dell has plans to release a third PDA before the year is out. What’s so special about it? Think XP…

That’s right! This new leak points to a Dell PDA with Windows XP as the embedded operating system. Numerous new features are to be included, the highlight being voice commands. Tighter integration with the other Microsoft applications is also expected, along with a revamped interface. It’s too early to tell if this is a prototype or something intended for production.

I know this sounds suspect, but we’ve got an email on the subject and Robert Cringly from InfoWorld has similar info. The implications are quite serious though, if we really are looking at a mobile version of XP on Pocket PC’s. Seems like a natural progression, but could turn off buyers that were pumped for the new ViewSonic, Toshiba and HP units.
