Dell Venue Pro’s Wide Release Pushed Back to January

Those who pre-ordered the Dell Venue Pro online were supposed to be getting their smartphones now, but are instead getting notices that this Windows Phone won’t be delivered until next month.

This is one of T-Mobile’s two devices running Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows Phone 7. It has a sliding keyboard, plus a range of high-end features such as a large screen and fast processor.

Dell Venue Pro with Windows Phone 7Although it debuted in November, at first this smartphone was available only in Microsoft brick-and-mortar stores. At the beginning of this month, Dell starting taking pre-orders for its website.

These pre-orders were scheduled to start arriving this week, but consumers are reporting online that they are being notified that their purchases won’t arrive until some point in January.

The reason for this delay has not yet been revealed.

Dell’s latest smartphone has a 4.1-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) capacitive touchscreen and a sliding keyboard. This isn’t the only slider running Microsoft’s new mobile operating system, but it is the only one with a portrait-oriented keyboard rather than a landscape-oriented one.

It runs Windows Phone 7 on a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

The Venue Pro is able to connect to T-Mobile’s 3G network (but not its 4G one), and it includes Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, and a GPS receiver.

This Dell device also sports 8 GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, an FM tuner, and a 1400 mAh battery.
