Information has begun leaking out on Sony Ericsson’s first Android-based phone. This will reportedly be a very high-end device, with features like a 1 GHz processor and an 8 MPx camera.

Sony Ericsson RachaelThis company has made no secret that it’s working on a smartphone running Google’s operating system, but has kept quiet about the details. Nevertheless, a fairly complete description of this upcoming model has emerged through unofficial channels.

Images that have leaked out show that this phone — code-named Rachael — will have a tablet shape, without a hardware keyboard.

It will reportedly run the Android OS on a 1 GHz processor Snapdragon processor. Sony Ericsson has created a proprietary user interface for this device that emphasizes social networking (see here).

This will supposedly be a GSM phone, with support for HSDPA running at 7.2 Mbps.

Other features will include an 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus and a 3.5 mm headset jack.

Many details still remain a mystery, such as the screen size and resolution, whether it will have Wi-Fi and/or GPS, and more.

Also unknown is when this product — which will supposedly be part of the Xperia series — will hit the market.
