Details on Palm’s WebOS 1.2 Leak Out

Palm has accidentally leaked an early edition of WebOS 1.2 to a few lucky users, giving the world a sneak peek at the next version of this smartphone operating system. This is being carefully examined, and there’s good news and bad news for those who have a Palm Pre.

The good news is that the next version of this operating system might start using  the LEDs that a built into the Pre to notify users of events, like new emails. The lack of this feature has drawn much criticism, and Palm appears ready to respond.

With this feature, the LEDs that are on both sides of the Gesture Area will blink to notify users of events. Users will have the option to turn this on or off.

However, the pre-release version of WebOS 1.2 has this feature completely disabled, and it’s not clear if it will be part of the shipping version.

Remote Removal of Applications
In the bad news department, the next version of this operating system will apparently allow Palm to remotely remove applications from users’ devices.

When and if this happens, users will get the notice:

Palm had to delete this application from the App Catalog and your device. If you paid for this app, your money will be refunded.

This version of the WebOS only leaked a couple of days ago, and details on it are still emerging.
