Verizon has apparently begun to ship promotional materials for what will be its third Android OS smartphone to retail stores, showing that the release is imminent.

Motorola Devour BoxReports of this model have been leaking out for months, and a fairly complete overview is already available. Nevertheless, an image of some of the promotional materials helps confirm some of the details.

Both of Verizon’s current Android OS models are part of the “Droid” series, but its next one will not. Instead, it will be called the Motorola Devour.

The leaked promotional materials also help confirm that this device will run MotoBlur, Motorola’s software that gives easy access to consumer and business e-mail accounts, as well as social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter.

Naturally, the image of the smartphone shows conforms to the earlier leaked pictures of the Devour.

A Preliminary Overview of the Motorola Devour
This Android-based model will supposedly have a shape somewhat similar to the popular Motorola Droid, but without many of the high-end features.

Motorola Calgary for VerizonLike its big brother, it will be a slider, with a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard. It will apparently have a smaller, lower-resolution screen than the Droid, though.

On this device’s front, next to the touchscreen, will be three touch-sensitive buttons and an optical trackpad, rather than a trackball or D-pad.

The Droid Devour will allegedly debut with Android OS 2.1, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, and have the standard suite of software for connecting to Google services.

In addition, it will have support for Verizon’s EV-DO mobile broadband network, plus it will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The Devour is also allegedly going to have a 3 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm headset jack, a GPS receiver, a microSD memory card slot, and a 1420 mAh battery.

Any Day Now
Not even unconfirmed reports have given an exact day on which the Motorola Devour is going to be released, but it can’t be too far in the future, if retail stores have started getting promotional materials for it from Verizon.

Pricing for this this device also has yet to leak out, but it is expected to be an inexpensive option for those who want an Android-based smartphone with a keyboard.
