Kyocera 7135 Specs

Kyocera is getting closer to releasing the anticipated 7135. The FCC has granted approval for the sale of the device in the US and now Kyocera is committing to a 2002 launch.

Kyocera actually gained FCC approval quite a long time ago. So what’s the wait all about? It’s tough to speculate, but perhaps they didn’t want to be first with this new breed of integrated PDA’s. That’s possible – Handspring stumbled a bit out of the gate with the Treo 180. Maybe manufacturing costs were too high. Maybe the market was too small.

Whatever the issue, Kyocera has confirmed a release date of some time in the next two months. My feeling is that any new PDA that comes out this year better be out before Thanksgiving, but you never know. Late releases mgiht get left behind in the critical gift giving season.

As for carriers, it doesn’t seem that the 7135 has a SIM card slot, so look for Sprint to carry this one. Further support for this argument can be made because Sprint surrently carries the venerable 6035.

eWeek seems to have a unit in hand, although their review isn’t very in depth. Check it out here if you ‘re interested.
