First Megapixel Palm OS Cameraphone Announced

Qool Labs, an Asian company focusing on digital lifestyle products, today announced its first Palm Powered smartphone, the Qool QDA-700. This is also the first time a Palm OS smartphone with a 1.3-megapixel camera has been announced.

The QDA-700 will run the Palm OS Garnet operating system. It will be a tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz) smartphone targeting the Asian and European consumer market.

This device will come with plenty of multimedia features, including a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 2.8-inch color display, support for WAV/MP3/MIDI ringtones, MP3 player, and MPEG4 video capture and playback capabilities.

Qool QDA-700 In addition, the QDA-700 will be bundled with productivity applications such as DocumentsToGo and PalmSource Mail, designed to appeal to “prosumer” and business customers.

The QDA-700 is based on the smartphone platform developed by Portable Innovation Technologies (PiTech), one of PalmSource’s newest ODM partners.

“We are thrilled to be working with Qool Labs and PalmSource in launching the first Palm Powered smartphone with 1.3-megapixel camera,” said Lyon Lau, PiTech executive director of business development. “The Qool QDA-700 is the ultimate Palm Powered smartphone thanks to its robust multimedia capabilities and comprehensive business applications.”

This smartphone will be launched across multiple markets in Asia and Europe in November.
