Flextronics and Microsoft have announced Peabody, a GSM/GPRS smartphone running Windows Mobile.
This device won’t go on sale to the public. Instead, it a reference design that other companies can use to create their own smartphones.
“Through ODM mobile phone platforms such as Peabody, Flextronics is providing OEMs with a cost-effective way to quickly expand their product lines and respond to market demands,” said Tom Deitrich, vice president of ODM Products, Flextronics.
The company also announced that it is developing a product family of devices based on next-generation Windows Mobile software for deployment on GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.
This announcement was made at the 3GSM World Congress, going on now in Cannes, France.
