FreedomPop Sleeve Turns the iPod Touch into an iPhone

FreedomPop 4G iPod Touch SleeveEarlier this month FreedomPop began its crazy ambition to provide consumers with  a free 4G internet service. With the company already teetering on the edge of lunacy, it aims to shift our perceptions once again with the ability to turn the iPod touch into a full-functioning cellular-wireless device.

Freedom Pop announced today that it is now shipping the Freedon Sleeve Rocket, which will allow consumers to access the company’s free 4G network, enabling Apple’s handheld to function like an iPhone.

The iPod touch equipped with the sleeve will be able to stream vidoes, make VOIP calls, and serve as a wireless hot spot for up to eight devices anywhere within FreedomPop’s 4G Network. Even better, the new sleeve allows the iPod Touch to function faster than the iPhone 4/4S, recording speeds of up to 10x that of 3G networks.

The announcement of this accessory comes just a few weeks after the company’s 4G service entering public beta earlier this month. The device is currently offered on FreedomPop’s website for $100. Purchasing it will allow consumers to opt for the guaranteed 500MB of free 4G wireless internet service every month.

Consumers who are looking for more data will be able to purchase it either $10/GB or opt for a 2GB or 4GB a month plan, priced at $18 and $29 respectively.
