Google Celebrates April Fool’s Day with Translate for Animals App

by Reads (9,832)

Google has released Translate for Animals, an application that supposedly translates what people’s pets are saying into English. In reality, it is one of this company’s many April Fool’s Day jokes.

A statement from the company says:

We are excited to introduce Translate for Animals, an Android application which we hope will allow us to better understand our animal friends. We’ve always been a pet-friendly company at Google, and we hope that Translate for Animals encourages greater interaction and understanding between animal and human.

This app really is available in the Android Market, and it acts as if it is listening sounds made by a range of animals, then returns an English “translation” — in reality this appears to be a randomly chosen phrase.
