Handspring giving away VisorPhones!
Today, Handspring begins offering its cell phone module, the VisorPhone, for free, with the purchase of a Visor handheld.
When the VisorPhone debuted last December the cost was $299 before tacking on a service plan. The move is designed to spur not only Phone shipments but Visor s as well. The PDA industry has been hit hard by slumping demand over the past months and Handspring has been no exception. With as many as three new units rumored to be released in the next month or so, this could be a move to reduce inventoried of older and soon to be discontinued units.
In addition to telecomm functions, the VisorPhone enables Internet access and other wireless functionality. This is the third price cut and promotion of the Phone unit in the past few months. Offers have dropped form $99 to $49 and now they go for free with the purchase of a Visor. Service plans range from around $30 to $200 per month.
The promotion announced Tuesday has similar conditions. To receive the module for free, a consumer must purchase a Visor handheld and activate a service plan from the company’s Web Site. The promotion is for a limited time. However, the company has not determined an ending date for it, according to a Handspring representative.
